I’m ecstatic. I love a band called Peach Pit and have been obsessed with them for around a year now. Their album Being So Normal has to be my most listened to album of all time. Every song in the album is incredible. The dreamy guitar solos by Chris, Neil’s hypnotic singing, Peter’s very subtle yet very prominent bass, and Mikey’s perfect drums working in such amazing sync is what makes each song brilliant. Each band member is a master of their instrument, however none over do it leaving a beautiful and peaceful melody in the ear before the album finishes.
I’ve recommeneded a few things in my life that everyone has unanimously liked. Begin Again, Avatar: The Last Airbender and most recently Peach Pit. I’ve recommended Being So Normal (their album) to at least 25 people from my college and internship (when I was doing it) and everyone is just mind-blown by their first impression. All that takes for anyone to fall in love is this guitar solo (This is my favorite song in the entire album).
If you didn’t find the melody great, then I’m sorry but we don’t have similar interests in music. But if you did, you have to listen to the entire album.
Now that I’ve explained the context, you need to know one more thing before I move on: I play the piano. I’ve been playing for a really long time and have been mostly self-taught. I primarily play by ear and know what the pedals on the piano do (checkmate people-who don’t know what the pedals do). When I find a song that I love, I start playing it on my keyboard. And that happened with Private Presley, song number 8 of Being So Normal, over a year ago.
It was only recently that I had the amazing thought of sending a 30 second video of the guitar solo to Peach Pit on instagram. They’re known to reply to their fans (having done once to me before) so I thought to give it a shot. So on December 24th at 1:24 pm Indian Time, I sent Peach Pit a video with Private Presley’s Guitar Solo being played on the keyboard (the camera is pointed down so no one can see mah face). 5 minutes later, they respond with So Sick! Thanks for sharing ::). This was wayyyy more than enough for me. I was excited and this really made my day.
Fast forward to 9th January (i.e. 24 hours ago). I get a message from one of my friends saying that Peach Pit uploaded a fan cover of Private Presley’s guitar solo on the piano and it sounded awfully close to my version. Newsflash. It was mine! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
